Gov. Newsom: Entertainment Industry Re-Opening Guidelines Expected 'Monday'

SACRAMENTO — California Governor Gavin Newsom revealed today that post-quarantine reopening guidelines for specific sectors, including the entertainment industry, will be released as early as Monday.

Newsom made the remarks at a virtual roundtable focused on Hollywood, part of his "Economic Recovery & Reinvention Listening Tour."

The roundtable was aimed at those who work in the mainstream film and television industry in California and was streamed live on YouTube (see video above).

Newsom said his team was drafting the guidelines "in real time," and that the entertainment industry is one of the business areas that will receive new guidelines starting Monday.

The adult entertainment industry has been closely watching the progress of mainstream entertainment as they negotiate a return to set-based productions.

Director Ava DuVernay, who took part in the roundtable, said mainstream sets are “very safe places.”

Netflix exec Ted Sarandos noted that physical production “might need to start very simply, with one- to two-person reality shows and ratchet up from there,” according to entertainment news site Deadline.

“We are producing in just about every single discipline,” Sarandos added, “and so might have a unique perspective.”
